The Czech Republic will be represented this year by the indie pop group Lake Malawi. The group was founded in 2013 by the guitarist and lead singer Albert Černý. Albert was born on 17th of February 1989 in Třinek, Czech Republic. In the band, there are two more members, Jeroným Šubrt who plays the bass and the keys and Antonín Hrabal who plays the drums. The name of the band was inspired by a Bon Iver song.
The band released their first single in 2014 and it was entitled “Always June”. In the same year, they opened Thirty Seconds To Mars’ concert in Prague. The next year they released their EP “We are making love again”. Their first full album “Surrounded By Light” published in 2017.
The band focuses on an international audience, that’s why all of their songs are in English. Their Eurovision entry is not an exception. “Friend Of A Friend” is co-composed by Jan Steinsdoerfer, Maciej Mikolaj Trybulec and Albert Černý.
The Czech Republic competes in the first Semifinal on the 6th place.
