Artist Profile: France 2019 – Bilal Hassani

This year, France is represented by Bilal Hassani. Bilal was born on 9th September 1999, in Paris to Moroccan parents. He started singing at the age of five. Shortly after he took singing lessons. He came to public attention by competing in the second season of the French edition of The Voice Kids. On the show, he managed to reach the battle rounds, where he was eliminated.

Bilal has also a very successful YouTube channel. He has almost 1 million subscribers and every video he uploads is watched by at least half a million viewers. Bilal has covered many songs over the years like “Made For Now” by Janet Jackson and Eurovision related like “Rise Like A Phoenix” by Conchita Wurst – his The Voice Kids auditioned song.

His song Roi is an uptempo song with a special message. The song is composed by the duo Madame Monsieur. Bilal won with 200 points his national final Destination Eurovision. Madame Monsieur represented last year France with their song Mercy.

France is prequalified in the Final, as being part of the Big 5. Although, French are able to vote in the first semifinal.
