A couple of hours ago, the third day of rehearsals came to an end. The first 9 acts of the second semifinal rehearsed at the Expo Tel Aviv.
The day started with the rehearsal of Armenia. It’s clear that the song is good, not excellent but good. The live vocals are good and don’t differ from the studio version… and then is the staging. Well… there is nothing to comment about it. The performance is based on the graphics except for Srbuk’s vocals and I’m not sure if it’ll work!
I like the Irish song, it’s a happy one and fits perfectly to Sarah. I love the comic-related graphics and if you pay attention even her necklace says “POW”. However, Ireland is not a clear qualifier for me… it can go both ways! Tomorrow, when all the second semifinals rehearsals will have taken place, we’ll have a clearer opinion.
Latvian song is a unique one, I cannot compare it with any other Eurovision song. I think is the same situation as Ireland… it can go both ways! The graphics are nice, with the moon and the more jazz vibes.
First of all, I don’t like the Swiss song, but I can see why some do otherwise. The stage is clearly empty and the graphics nothing special. Luca can obviously dance, but I was expecting something more as Sakis Rouvas did in 2004 (Greece). I still have my concerns about the vocals and I understand that dancing and singing simultaneously isn’t an easy thing… but again is a singing competition!
I believe in the Moldovian song from the first time I heard it. I think it’s a pure Eurovision song. Anna’s vocals are good. Now the sand thing is a little bit outdated… I mean we saw it in 2011 (Ukraine). The dress of Anna is like a wedding one, but I get it it’s Moldova we are talking about! (Moldova 2017)
The Romanian appearance is a good one as simple as that. You can hear the song, the vocals are good, the graphics are fine and they have fires and pyrotechnics. Although, in my opinion, I would have chosen a different outfit.
Leonora enlarged her national appearance performance and I can understand the reason. I mean she beat all the odds, so why to not do the same in Eurovision? The vocals are good and its pure happy song.
One of my biggest surprises today is the Austrian rehearsal. Paenda was simple on stage but I think she captured me! I don’t know how but she did. I’m curious to see how the second rehearsal will go for this one.
Sweden did the same with Denmark. Nothing very new to this appearance and why… he received the maximum 12 points from the international juries in Melodifestivalen. John Lundvik had good vocals and the backings did a great job. I’m excited about the next rehearsal.
That was my opinion about the first 9 rehearsals of the second semifinal. Tomorrow, the rest of the second semifinal’s countries – Croatia, Malta, Lithuania, Russia, Albania, Norway, The Netherlands, North Macedonia and Azerbaijan – will perform their songs for the first time on the Eurovision stage.
Comment: Probably its clear that the majority of today’s songs were big disappointments.
