Conan Osiris, the eccentric artist from Portugal, won this year’s Barbara Dex Award. The Award is well known in the Eurovision world and it’s given to the most notable outfit – prior to this year, the title was about the “worst outfit” – of the contest, since 1997.
Conan Osiris’ real name is Tiago Miranda and was born on 5th of January 1989, in Lisbon, Portugal. In 2010, he got his degree as a graphic designer. His first album came out in 2016 and by the end of 2017, his second album was available. In 2019, he won his country’s national final with the song “Telemoveis”. His entry didn’t manage to qualify for the grand final and finished 15th in his semi.
This is the second time in the short history of the award – compared to the ESC – that the country won it. The first was in 2006.
The second place went to Cyprus and Tamta. Belarus, Belgium and North Macedonia – last year’s winner – came third, fourth and fifth respectively.
What Is The Barbara Dex Award?
Barbara Dex was the representative of Belgium back in 1993. Her dress was self-designed, but it didn’t look so good. The first award was given in 1997 to Malta and since then it is given to the worst dressed contestant of the contest. The award was assigned by the House of Eurovision, from 1997 to 2016 and by another fansite songfestival.be from 2017.
