National Final Reminder: Maruv – Siren Song (Ukraine 2019)

I decided to start the National Final Reminder with something from the year that passed. Ukraine was one of the most intriguing scandals of this year’s contest. But let’s take the things from the beginning.

Ukraine initially was among the competing countries of the 2019 contest. The Ukrainian national final started on 9th of February and concluded on 23rd of the same month. Maruv was the winner of Vidbir with her song “Siren Song”. Sadly, after a series of irrational expectations by the public broadcaster, Maruv decided not to represent her country. Shortly after, the country withdrew from the contest.

Maruv or Anna Korsun was born on 15th of February 1991 in Pavlohrad. She is a singer, composer, poet and producer who lives and works in Kyiv. In 2014 she graduated from a Polytechnic Institute. In her school, she met her future husband. Despite her non-musical studies, Maruv participated in a music contest.

A couple of years after her graduation, Maruv took part in the Ukrainian national final with the group Pringlez but didn’t make it to the final of the show. In 2017, the group was renamed to Maruv and the members decided to change their music style to a more modern sound.

Earlier this year, the events that followed her win, made her the talk of the town to all the eurofans. Her song – Siren Song – was a fan favourite and many fans disappointed by her withdrawal.

What do you think about the song? What do you think about the artist? Let us know on the comment box below.
