National Final Reminder: Ellen Benediktson – Songbird (Sweden 2014)

We continue the National Final Reminder with something from 2014. Today, we will travel to Sweden.

As usual, Sweden decided its representative through Melodifestivalen, The national final of all the others! 32 contestants were announced as early as late 2013. Among them were Eurovision experts like Alcazar and Helena Paparizou, but also newbies like today’s artist Ellen Benediktson.

The song “Songbird” is the first single of Ellen and it is composed by Sharon Vaughn, Johan Fransson, Tim Larsson and Tobias Lundgren. The song managed to qualify directly to the final, finishing 2nd in its semi. Afterall the song finished 7th among 10 entries. The song also entered the national charts, reaching the 35th place.

Ellen Benediktson

Elen Benediktson was born on 25th of April 1995 in Malmö, Sweden. She made her first musical steps in 2013. During the Eurovision of 2013, which was held in her home Malmö, she was the stand-in singer for the French song.

Her Melodifestivalen entry, the next year was her debut single. She released a new single, a couple of months later. In 2015, she took again part in Melodifestivalen with the song “Insomnia”. Sadly, the song didn’t have the same success as the previous year. She finished 5th in her semi. Her song reached the number 88th on the national charts.

Since 2016 she has released 2 singles under the pseudonym Laura Nox.
