We continue the National Final Reminder with something from 2011. Today, we will travel to Latvia.
Estonia back in 2011 decided its representative through Eirodziesma 2011, a show similar to nowadays Supernova. From the 71 submitted songs, 20 went to the semifinals. Two semifinals, one second chance and a final lead three top-scored entries to reach the Super Final.
The song “Banjo Laura” was one of that top-3 entries, a song by Lauris Reiniks. The entry was composed by Lauris himself. The song managed to reach the 2nd place in the night of the final, beaten only by Musiqq and “Angel in Disguise”.
Lauris Reiniks was born on the 11th of July 1979. He is a singer, composer, host and actor. He is an established artist in his country and has a very tied connection with the Eurovision. First of all, in 2000 was the Latvia spokesperson in the contest. Since 2001, he has made six attempts for Eurovision, winning once in 2003, as part of F.L.Y.. The band F.L.Y. represent Latvia to the contest, with the song “Hello from Mars”. The song finished 24th out of 26 competing entries.
Is noteworthy that all his national final attempts were successful in a way. None of his songs have ever finished below the Top-5.
