National Final Reminder: Vanilla Ninja – Birds of Peace

We continue the National Final Reminder with something from 2007. Today, we will travel to Estonia.

Estonia back in 2007 decided its representative through Eurolaul, a show similar to nowadays Eestilaul.  Ten contestants were trying to win the event and represent their country in Eurovision.

Vanilla Ninja and their song “Birds of Peace” finished third in the final, beaten by Gerli Padar and “Partners in Crime”. The difference between Vanilla Ninja’s song and Gerli Padar’s was approximately 30.000 points.

Vanilla Ninja

Vanilla Ninja is a three-member girl band from Estonia. The group had a great career in Europe and not only during 2002 and 2008, especially in Estonia, Germany and Austria. They made two attempts to represent their home country to the contest, in 2003 and 2007, but they fail both times. In 2005, the group was internally selected by the Swiss broadcaster as their representative. Vanilla Ninja were favourite to win, but they finished 8th with 128 points. That was still the first Top-10 result of the country since 1993. The group was dissolved in 2008.
