We decided to continue our new series of articles “Country Of The Month” with Poland. In a period of four weeks, we are going to remind you of the best Polish entries. Note: we selected the entries not by their place in their final, but by their impact on the fans.
Ich Troje – Keine Grenzen – Żadnych granic
In 2003, Poland selected Ich Troje and their song “Keine Grenzen – Żadnych granic”. The song is a combination of German, Polish and Russian. The title means “No Borders”.
It was composed by André Franke and the lyrics were by Joachim Horn-Bernges, Michał Wiśniewski and Jacek Łągwa. The song placed 7th in a field of 26, with 90 points.
Ich Troje was a group of five members, at the time they participated in the contest. Today, only three members are still in the group. They were founded in 1996 by Michał Wiśniewski and Jacek Łągwa. The three remaining artists are Michał Wiśniewski, Jacek Łągwa and Agata Buczkowska. Ich Troje, represented one more time their country at the contest in Athens, in 2006. Their song “Follow My Heart” didn’t qualify for the final finishing 11th in the semi.
Poland in the Eurovision 🇵🇱
Poland debuted at the contest in 1994. Since then, it has participated 22 times, missing the final 14 times. Since its first participation, Poland didn’t participate four times, in 2000, 2002, 2012 and 2013. Both in 2000 and 2002, the absence was due to the rules that applied those years. In 2012, the public broadcaster had to cover the European Football Championship and therefore withdrew not only for that year, but the following too.
The country has finished 3 times in the Top-10. Its best result, the 2nd place, was achieved at its debut in 1994. In 2016 the country scored 229 points (under the new voting system), making it the most points Poland got in any Eurovision Contest it has participated. In contrast, its worst result came in 2011, when not only it was eliminated at the semis, but also finished last – 19th – with just 18 points.
