Country Of The Month: Poland Part 4 (Last)

Introduction

We decided to continue our new series of articles “Country Of The Month” with Poland. In a period of four weeks, we are going to remind you of the best Polish entries. Note: we selected the entries not by their place in their final, but by their impact on the fans.

Michał Szpak – Color Of Your Life

In 2016, Poland selected Michał Szpak and his song “Color Of Your Life”. The song is entirely in English.

It was composed by Andy Palmer and Kamil Varen. The song placed 8th in a field of 26, with 229 points.

Michał Szpak was born on 26 of November 1990, in Jasło, Poland. Michał has never taken music lessons. He is currently living in Warsaw and studying Psychology at the University. His music career started in 2011 when he competed at the first season of the Polish version of The X-Factor. He reached the final of the talent show but didn’t win. In 2015, he released his debut album, with praise from the critics. A year later, he competed at the Polish national final and won it, beating the odds favourite Margaret! From 2017 he is one of the judges of the Polish version of The Voice. In 2018, he released his second album, which reached the first place at the Polish charts.

Poland in the Eurovision
🇵🇱

Poland debuted at the contest in 1994. Since then, it has participated 22 times, missing the final 14 times. Since its first participation, Poland didn’t participate four times, in 2000, 2002, 2012 and 2013. Both in 2000 and 2002, the absence was due to the rules that applied those years. In 2012, the public broadcaster had to cover the European Football Championship and therefore withdrew not only for that year, but the following too.

The country has finished 3 times in the Top-10. Its best result, the 2nd place, was achieved at its debut in 1994. In 2016 the country scored 229 points (under the new voting system), making it the most points Poland got in any Eurovision Contest it has participated. In contrast, its worst result came in 2011, when not only it was eliminated at the semis, but also finished last – 19th – with just 18 points.

That is the last part of Poland being the country of the month! Due to the Christmas season our weakly posts of “Country Of The Month” will stop uploading. From the 1st December, more Christmas related articles will be posted! Stay tuned!
