Tonight, the fourth and last semi-final of Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s national selection, will be live from Malmö. Seven acts will try to win one of the two tickets for the Final. Those who will finish third and fourth they’ll have a Second Chance next week.
Five of the seven artists have previously participated. The only newcomers are William Strid and Jakob Karlberg.
- Frida Öhrn
Frida this year is competing for the first time alone. In the past, she participated twice with the band Cookies ‘N’ Beans (2009, 2013). Tonight, she’ll try solo with the song “We Are One”.
- William Strid
William is debuting this year to the contest. He is mostly known to the Swedish audience, due to his participation in the Swedish version of Idol in 2018. In Idol he finished 5th, being eliminated just before the semis. His song “Molnljus” is co-composed by David Kreuger, who has co-composed two Melodifestivalen’s winner – Sanna Nielsen, Undo 2014 and Robin Bengtsson, I Can’t Go On 2017.
- Nanne Gränvall
Nanne is a Melfest expert having participated seven times in the past. She has also composed many Melodifestivalen’s entries. In 1996 she won the national final as part of the duo One More Time. Their song “Den Vilda” managed to finish 3rd in Eurovision. This year she will try for the eight-time with the song “Carpool Karaoke”.
- Victor Crone
Victor is familiar both with Melodifestivalen and Eurovision. In 2015, he teamed up with Behrang Miri and competed to Melfest with the song “Det Rår Vi Inte För”. The song made it to the Second Chance but knocked out by Samir & Viktor. Last year, he competed in Eesti Laul – the Estonian national final – with the song “Storm” and won it. Therefore, he represented the Baltic nation into the Eurovision. In Tel Aviv, he placed 20th in the final.
- Ellen Benediktson & Simon Peyron
Both artists have participated in Melodifestivalen in the past. Ellen Benediktson made her debut in 2014 with the love-song “Songbird“, placing 7th in the final. A year later she tried again, this time with the song “Insomnia”, but failed to qualify to the final placing 5th in her semi. Simon Peyron will make his second attempt tonight. His debut was in 2014 as part of the group Outtrigger. Their song that year made it to the Second Chance round but knocked out by Eurovision winner Helena Paparizou. Their song is titled “Surface”.
- Jakob Karlberg
Jakob will make his debut tonight to the contest. His entry is titled “Om du tror att jag saknar dig”.
- Hanna Ferm
Hanna is participating for the second time in a row! Last year, she debuted to the contest but not alone. She sang the song “Hold You” along with Liamoo. The duo managed to place 3rd in the final. This year she returns to the show alone with the song “Brave”.
You can watch the semifinal live from SVT Play here. (20:00 CET)
