Melodifestivalen 2020: Results Released!

Today, SVT revealed the full results of this year’s Melodifestivalen!

Number Of Votes Vs. Number Points

There are 7 different age groups that give their points separately and one extra set of points for telephone voters. That means that an entry can be voted by more viewers but don’t get enough points to qualify – e.g. if the majority of voters are from one age group. This year there were songs that lost their chances of even qualifying to the second chance due to this voting method.

William Stridh sang in the 3rd semifinal and got 700.582 votes more than Ellen Benediktson & Simon Peyron and Frida Öhrn. However, the last two entries qualified to the second chance because William got 2 sets of 8-points but also 2 sets of 1-point and the other two got more average points from almost all the groups.

Almost the same situation with the second Duel in Andra Chansen. Malou Prytz got 833.780 votes and Paul Rey 810.439 votes, but Paul Rey got the ticket for the final because he voted by more, 5 out of the 8 groups.

The 3rd Semi-final saw Anis Don Demina getting 1.107.528 votes and Mohombi got 1.031.906 votes. Anid Don Demina got an average 7,5 points, whilst Mohombi got an average of 7,75 points from the groups. That’s why the second one qualified directly to the final.

Ties In The Second Chance

Two out of four Duels of the Second chance got the same points from the 8 age groups, four each. In that situation, the numbers of points determinate the winner of each duel.
