National Final Reminder: Raphael Gualazzi – Carioca!

We continue the National Final Reminder of 2020 with something from Italy.

Italy selected its representative through Festival di Sanremo, as usual. The music festival celebrated its 70th anniversary.

The song “Carioca” was Raphael Gualazzi’s entry to the contest. At the final, he placed eleventh in a field of 23. The song was composed by Raphael Gualazzi, Davide Pavanello and Davide Petrella.

Raphael Gualazzi was born on 11 November 1981, in Urbino, Italy. He released his first studio album in 2005. He has competed four times in Sanremo. In 2011 he won the newcomers’ section and was chosen to represent Italy to the upcoming Eurovision. Italy returned to the contest after 1997 for the first time. Raphael placed 2nd 32 points behind the winner. He then competed in the 2013, 2014 and 2020 editions of Sanremo.
