National Final Reminder: Helena Paparizou – Survivor!

We continue the National Final Reminder with something from 2014. Today, we will travel to Sweden.

Sweden back in 2014 decided its representative through Melodifestivalen, as usual. Thirty-two songs took part in the national selection, from which ten made it to the final.

The song “Survivor” was one of those twelve songs. The entry managed to place 4th in the final of the show. The song was composed by Bobby Ljunggren, Henrik Wikström, Karl-Ola Kjellholm and Sharon Vaughn.

Helena Paparizou

Helena Paparizou was born on 31st of January 1982 in Borås, Sweden. Her parents were Greek immigrants. She moved for a couple of years in Greece and then back to Sweden, where she grew up.

She started her music career being a part of the music duo Antique. The duo represented Greece in the 2001 edition of the contest and finished 3rd (the best place for the country until then). Later she went solo. In 2005 she represented Greece again. This time, her song “My Number One” won the contest and brought to the Mediterranean country its first and only – until today – win.

After her Eurovision win, Helena released many singles and albums. Many times her songs have entered the Greek, Cyprus and Swedish charts. In 2014 she competed in Melodifestivalen, in order to represent Sweden in Eurovision, but her song Survivor finished 4th in the final. Since 2016, she is one of the four judges in the Greek version of the Voice. Her latest work is her single “Mila Mou”.
