The Netherlands this year chose Jeangu Macrooy as its 2021 representative. Jeangu was born on November 6, 1993, in Paramaribo, Suriname.
He started playing the guitar at the age of 13. In 2011, he formed a band called Between Towers along with his twin brother Xillan. Their first album was released in 2013. A year later, he moved to the Netherlands, where his musical career was boosted. He has appeared on a TV show in the Netherlands and he has been nominated for an Edison Award – very prestigious Dutch music awards. Since then he has released two studio albums, one live album, one EP and a couple of singles.
Last year, he was internally selected to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision with “Grow”. After the contest’s cancellation, the host country selected Jeangu for the 2021 edition of the contest.
His 2021 entry “Birth Of A New Age” is composed by Pieter Perquin and Jeangu Macrooy and reached the 37th place in the Dutch charts.
The Netherlands – the host country – is going to perform direct at the final. It is preallocated at the 23rd place of the final. Dutch would also be able to vote in the first semifinal.
