We decided to continue our series of articles “Country Of The Month” with Moldova. In a period of four weeks, we are going to remind you of the best Moldovan entries. Note: we selected the entries not by their place in their final, but by their impact on the fans.

SunStroke Project & Olia Tira – Run Away

In 2010, Moldova selected SunStroke Project & Olia Tira and their song “Run Away” to sent in Oslo, Norway. The song is entirely in English and it was composed by Anton Ragoza, Sergey Stepanov and Alina Galetskaya. At the final, the entry placed 22nd with 27 points.

SunStroke Project is a Moldovan duo that was formed in 2007, in Chișinău, Moldova. The current formation has two members: Sergei Ialovitski and Sergey Stepanov. Former members are: Anton Ragoza (Moldova 2010, 2017 – part of SunStroke Project), Pasha Parfeny (Moldova 2012) and Aleksei Myslitski. The debut album of the duo was released in 2007. In 2010, the group won the national selection and managed to place 22nd in the final of the contest. After a series of singles and two EPs, the group competed again in the national selection in 2017. Their song “Hey, Mamma!” won the national final and managed to place 3rd in the Eurovision, making it the best Moldovan entry till today!

The 2010 entry of the duo is known for the saxophone part of the song.

Olia Tyra was born on August 1, 1988, in East Germany to Moldovan parents. Olia entered the music industry at the age of 14. Her debut album was released in 2006. In 2010, he competed along with SunStroke Project in Eurovision. In 2014, Olia entered the national selection but placed 6th.

Moldova debuted in the contest in 2005. Since then, it has participated every year a total of 15 times.

The country, in its brief Eurovision History, has never topped the scoreboard. However, it has qualified ten times, including four Top-10 placings. Its worst semifinal result was in 2014 when it placed 16th (last) with 13 points. In the final, its worst score came in 2010, placing 22nd with 27 points. The group Sunstroke Project, back then, had teamed up with Olia Tira. Ironically, when the group entered solo the contest, the country achieved its best result, placing 3rd with 374 points.
