Introduction

We decided to continue our series of articles “Country Of The Month” with Moldova. In a period of four weeks, we are going to remind you of the best Moldovan entries. Note: we selected the entries not by their place in their final, but by their impact on the fans.

Arsenium & Natalia Gordienko feat. Connect-R – Loca

In 2006, Moldova selected Arsenium & Natalia Gordienko feat. Connect-R and their song “Loca” to sent in Athens, Greece. The song is in English with parts in Spanish and it was composed by Arsenium. At the final, the entry placed 20th with 22 points.

Arsenie Todiraș or simply Arsenium is a Moldovan singer and songwriter, that was born on July 22, 1983 in Chișinău, Moldova. He started his career as being a member of the boy-band O-Zone. The band gained global success through its song “Dragostea Din Tei”. In 2005, he started his solo career. In 2006, he competed in the Moldovan national final and won it. Therefore, he represented his country in Eurovision. The same year, he released his debut solo album. Today, he songs focus on the Romanian and the Russian audience.

Natalia Gordienko is currently in Rotterdam and she represents Moldova in Eurovision with the song “Sugar”. For more information click here.

Ștefan Relu Mihalache, better known as Connect-r, is a Romanian singer and an actor. He was born on June 9, 1982, in Ploiești, Romania. He is known for representing Moldova in Eurovision, back in 2006. He has released three studio albums, his most recent one in 2016. His songs have entered multiple times on the Romanian charts.

Moldova debuted in the contest in 2005. Since then, it has participated every year a total of 15 times.

The country, in its brief Eurovision History, has never topped the scoreboard. However, it has qualified ten times, including four Top-10 placings. Its worst semifinal result was in 2014 when it placed 16th (last) with 13 points. In the final, its worst score came in 2010, placing 22nd with 27 points. The group Sunstroke Project, back then, had teamed up with Olia Tira. Ironically, when the group entered solo the contest, the country achieved its best result, placing 3rd with 374 points.
