Julia Samoylova

Julia Olegovna Samoylova was born April 7, 1989, in Komi, Russia. She is a singer and songwriter. Due to spinal muscular atrophy she uses a wheelchair since her childhood. Between 2008 and 2010 she was part of TerraNova, a band that she created. Her fame in Russia came after she participated in the Russian version of The X Factor in 2013. In 2017, she was internally selected to represent Russian in Eurovision. Due to the Russian-Ukrainian relations that followed the political situation in the Crimean Peninsula, Russian artists that have performed in the area after 2014 are forbidden to enter Ukraine. Thus, Julia’s entry was withdrawn and she instead sang for her country in 2018. Her song “I Won’t Break” placed 15th in its semifinal.
