The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner and we are here to keep you company in these cold days. Every day will post a Christmas song that somehow is Eurovision related. The songs will be both covers and originals.
Jóhanna – Velkomin Jól
Our next Christmas song for this year is from Jóhanna. Jóhanna represented Iceland at Eurovision in 2009. Her Christmas song is part of her Christmas album, that was released last year.
Jóhanna was born on 16 October 1990, in Copenhagen, Denmark to Icelandic parents. She is better known to her country as Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir. She lived in Denmark until she was two years old, after that she moved with her family to Iceland. When she was nine she started singing lessons. At the same time she signed a contract with a record label and released three studio albums. In 2009, she entered the Icelandic national final with the song “Is It True” and won it. She travelled to Moscow, representing Iceland in the Eurovision and came second. After the competition she released her fourth studio album. In 2011 and 2013 she tried to compete again in Eurovision, but didn’t win the national final.
