Ani Lorak

Karolina Myroslavivna Kuiek a.k.a. Ani Lorak was born on September 27, 1978, in Kitsman, Ukraine. At the age of just 13 years she won a music competition. By 1999, she toured not only in Ukraine but internationally too. In 2005, she made her first attempt to represent Ukraine in Eurovision. At the national final she sang the sogn “A Little Shot Of Love”, but she placed second.

In 2008, the Ukrainian public broadcaster internally selected Ani Lorak for Eurovision. The song “Shady Lady” won the national selection – only a national final for the song was held that year in Ukraine – and travelled to Belgrade. “Shady Lady” placed 2nd in the final with 230 points. Her participation is memorable for Fokas Evangelino’s choreography and Ani Lorak’s outfit – designed by Roberto Cavalli.

Today, she is one of the most accomplished singers of her country, counting 12 studio albums – in English, Russian and Ukrainian – and multiple singles.
