The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner and we are here to keep you company in these cold days. Every day will post a Christmas song that somehow is Eurovision related. The songs will be both covers and originals.
Sanna, Shirley, Sonja – Så mörk är natten i midvintertid
Our next Christmas song for this year it is sung by Sanna, Shirley and Sonia. All three artists have connections with ESC. Sanna represented Sweden in 2014, whist Shirley and Sonja both competed in the Swedish national final. Their Christmas song was part of their 2010 Christmas song.
Sanna Viktoria Nielsen or simply Sanna Nielsen was born on November 24, 1984 in Edenryd, Sweden. She is a Swedish singer, songwriter and TV presenter. Her career dates back in the 90s, but became known to the European audience by competing in the Swedish national final, Melodifestivalen, seven times between 2001 and 2014. In 2014, her entry “Undo” won the national selection process and thus represented Sweden at Eurovision. At the contest, Sanna placed 3rd in the final. She has hosted Melodifestivalen in the past and has also been a commentator of Eurovision. Since 2016, she is the presenter of the Swedish show “Allsång på Skansen”. Sanna has released 8 studio albums and 26 singles.
Shirley Clamp was born on 17 February 1973, in Borås, Sweden. She started her career by doing backing vocals. Is noteworthy that she was one of the backing singers of Antiques during their Eurovision performance (Greece 2001). In 2003 she pursued a solo career and participated in Melodifestivalen, placing 6th in her semi. A year later, she competed again and advanced to the final through Second Chance round, placing 2nd. In 2005, her entry “Att Älskar Dig” placed 4th in the final. In total, she has competed six times in the Swedish national final as a singer and one as a composer. Her most recent participation was in 2014 with the song Burning Alive. Throughout the years she has released six solo albums.
Shirley was announced to be one of the 28 competing entries of this year’s Melodifestivalen.
Sonja Aldén was born in December 10, 1977, in Hertfordshire, England. She is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She has competed four times in Melodifestivalen. Her debut entry was in 2006, but she didn’t make it to the final. A year after, she tried one more time reaching the second chance round. In 2012 when she didn’t qualify for the final. In 2020, she competed again with “Sluta aldrig gå”, placing 5th in her semifinal.
