Spain 2022: Chanel Wins Benidorm Fest 2022!

A few moments ago, the next Spanish representative for Eurovision was selected!

This year, Spain decided its Eurovision representative through a national final. Benidorm Fest, as it is called, consisted of two semifinals and a final. A total of 13 – originally 14, but Luna Ki withdrew (more here) – entries tired to win the ticket for Turin. The ultimate winner was Chanel with her song “SloMo”.

Spain in the Eurovision

Spain debuted in the contest in 1961. Since then, it has participated 60 times, never missing the event.

The country is part of the “Big 5”, so its prequalified to the grand final. The country has topped the scoreboard on 2 contests (1968 and 1969) and placed in the Top-10 28 times!Its worst result came in 2017 when it finished 26th with 5 points. The country has also placed last in 1962, 1965 and 1983 with no points at all. It is noteworthy that two out of the three times a country has allowed to perform again were from Spain (1990, 2010).

Last year, Spain was represented by Blas Cantó and his song “Boy A Quedarme”. His song placed 24th with 6 points.
