We conclude our series of articles “Country Of The Month” with Norway. In a period of five weeks, we are going to remind you of the most memorable Norwegian entries.

Bobbysocks! – La Det Swinge

In 1985, Norway selected Bobbysocks! and their song “La Det Swinge” to sent in Gothenburg. The song was composed by Rolf Løvland, while conductor of the live performance was Terje Fjærn. At the final, Bobbysocks! won the contest with 123 points.


Bobbysocks! is a Norwegian pop duo that consists of Hanne Krogh and Elisabeth Andreassen. The duo was active between 1984 and 1988. At this period they released three studio albums and won Eurovision. Since 2010, the two artists perform together occasionally.

Elisabeth Gunilla Andreassen better known as Elisabeth Andreassen or simply Bettan is a Norwegian-Swedish singer that was born in March 28, 1958 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Her career started in 1979 and in 1980 she joined the country Swedish band Chips. As part of the Chips, she represented Sweden at Eurovision in 1982 and placed 8th. In 1984, the duo Bobbysocks! was formed. Along with Elisabeth, Hanne-Krogh sang in the duo. In 1985, the duo won the Norwegian national final, thus representing Norway at the contest. Their song “La Det Swinge” managed to win and give Norway its first victory.

In 1994, she represented again Norway along with Jan Werner Danielsen and the song “Duett”. The two artists placed 6th at the final of Eurovision. Her latest participation at Eurovision was in 1996, when as a solo artist sang “I Evighet”. The entry placed 2nd with 114 points.

With 4 participations at Eurovision she holds a Eurovision records along with Lys Assia, Sue of Peter, Sue & Marc and Valentina Monetta. it is noteworthy that Elisabeth has participated 6 times at Melodifestivalen and 6 times at Melodi Grand Prix.

Hanne Krogh Sundbø simply known as Hanne Krogh was born on January 24, 1956 in Oslo, Norway. Hanne is an established singer and actress.

Her singing career started when she was 9 years old. In 1978, she released her first studio album and until today she has released a total of 19 studio albums.

Norway in the Eurovision

Norway debuted in the contest in 1960. Since then, the country has participated 59 times. Norway has missed the contest twice. In 1970, Norway withdrew over its disagreement with the voting system (four countries won the 1969 contest). In 2002, was forced in withdrawal under the then rules of the contest.

The country has failed to qualify three times for the final – 2007, 2011 and 2016. Norway has a record number of last places – 11 times – 4 times of which with no points at all (1963, 1978, 1981 and 1997). In 2012, Tooji and his song “Stay” placed last at the final. That is the most recent last place of the Nordic country.

Norway has a total of twenty-four TOP-10 places, winning on three occasions. The first victory came in 1985 with Bobbysocks and “La det Swinge” and the second was in 1995 with Secret Garden and “Nocturne”. The most recent victory came in 2009; Alexander Rybak and his song “Fairytale” received 387 points, the most points any country had ever received under the 1975-2015 voting system.
