The final of Supernova, the Latvian national final, will be held tonight!
Supernova will return this year, after a one year break. The show will consist of one semifinal and one final. At the semifinal a total of 17 songs will compete. The 16 songs were selected by a jury and were released on the official site of the national final (hear the songs here). The 17th song was selected by an online voting. The songs that placed 17th-26th in the initial selection of the entries got a second chance. The voting of these entries concluded on January 14th. The winner of the wildcard was Miks Galvanovskis with “I’m Just A Sinner”.
Originally, ten acts qualified for the final of the show. However, it was announced that Miks Dukurs will compete in the final, after some technical issues were reported during his semifinal performance. There was some issues that affected his sound quality according to LTV. His qualification in the final came after the broadcaster evaluated his rehearsal and his semifinal performance.
1. RAUM – “Plans”
Reinis Straume a.k.a. RAUM is a singer and songwriter. He has signed a contract with Warner Music Baltics. He has participated in the second season of the Latvian X-Factors.
2. Linda Rušeniece – “Pay My Own Bills”
Linda Rušeniece is a singer. In the past six years she lived in the Netherlands, where she studied vocal art at the Rotterdam Conservatory “Codarts”. She currently lives in Latvia and wants to release her debut studio album.
3. Bermudu Divstūris – “BAD”
Bermudu Divstūris – meaning the Bermuda Triangle – is a Latvian band that was formed in 2011. The members are cousins Marats Ogļezņevs and Emīls Balceris along with Snickers, Lee, Saldais and drummer Vicītis. The band has released a number of singles. It is also noteworthy that the two cousins represented Latvia in 2011 at Eurovision under the name Musiqq.
4. Miks Galvanovskis – “I’m Just A Sinner”
Miks Galvanovskis started his career as part of the group “Ne citu rīt”. In 2016 she persue a solo career. He competed in Supernova in 2017 and he released his debut album in 2019. He is currently working on his new debut.
5. BUJĀNS – “He, She, You & Me”
Bujāns is a duo that consists of Intars Busulis and Reinis Sējāns. The duo was formed in 2016. Throughout the years, they have released a number of singles.
6. Elīna Gluzunova – “Es pabiju tur”
Elīna Gluzunova is a Latvian singer. She is better know for winning the Latvian X-Factor in 2019. Later, in 2020 she released her debut single.
7. Citi Zēni – “Eat Your Salad”
Citi Zēni, which means “Other Boys”, is Latvian band that consist of six members: Jānis Pētersons (vocals), Dagnis Roziņš (vocals, saxophone), Reinis Višķeris (keyboards), Krišjānis Ozols (guitar), Roberts Memmēns (bass) and Toms Kagainis (drums). Their debut album was released in 2021.
8. Inspo – “A Happy Place”
Inspo is a Latvian group that was formed in 2020 and consists of Nadīna Stirniniece and Aivars Lietaunieks.
9. Mēs Jūs Mīlam – “Rich Itch”
Mēs Jūs Mīlam, which means “We Love You”, is a duo that consists of Kaspars Breidak and Ralph Eyland.
10. Aminata – “I’m Letting You Go”
Aminata Savadogo or simply Aminata was born on January 9 2013, in Riga, Latvia. She is Latvian singer and songwriter. Her mother is of Latvian and Russian descent, whilst her father is from Burkina Faso.
In 2014, she entered the Latvian national final for Eurovision. Her entry managed to place 5th in the final. In 2015, she competed again and won with her song “Love Injected”. Aminata represented Latvia at Eurovision, where she placed 6th. The following year, she composed the Latvian entry for Justs. In late 2016, she competed in the Russian version of The Voice and she reached the “Knockouts”.
Moreover, throughout the years she composed songs for other artists that tried to compete in Eurovision. In 2017, she composed the song Aistė Pilvelytė, who enter the Lithuanian national final and placed second. In 2020, co-composed the Samanta Tīna’s winning entry of Supernova and also her 2021 Eurovision entry.
Aminata has released a number of singles, two studio albums and an EP.
11. Miks Dukurs – “First Love”
Miks Dukurs was born on December 31, 1988, in Latvia. He is a Latvian singer and songwriter. He first tried to represent Latvia at the very first junior Eurovision in 2003, but he placed second in the national final. Six years later, in 2009, he entered the national final of the adult version of the contest. Since then he has participated four more times in 2012, 2016, 2017 and 2020. This year he will make his sixth attempt.
His debut studio album was released in 2011, whilst his most recent one “33” was released on January 2022.
