Söngvakeppnin returned this year as the Icelandic national selection!

Iceland this year selected its Eurovision participant, as usual, through Söngvakeppnin. The national final dates back in 1986, when the country first participated at Eurovision. Björg Magnúsdóttir, Jón Jónsson and Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir hosted the show.

The show consisted of two semifinals – February 26, March 5. The final took place last Saturday. The winner of the show were Sigga, Beta & Elín with their entry “Með hækkandi sól”!

You can notice that 2nd placer Stefán Óli qualified to the final, receiving just 9 more votes than 3rd placer Amarosis. However, eventually Amarosis qualified for the final as a wild card.

Reykjavíkurdætur won the semifinal with more than double the votes – almost three times the 2nd placer’s points.

Despite of the final result, Reykjavíkurdætur won on both the jury voting and public voting at the first phase of the final.
