Several countries have expressed interest in hosting the upcoming Eurovision event!
After Ukraine’s win at the Grand Final of Eurovision last Saturday, everyone is interested in knowing where the next contest will be held, given the situation in Ukraine. With that in mind, a couple of countries have expressed their intentions to take the hosting rights for the next contest. Among the countries are Poland, Iceland, Spain, Sweden and the 2022 host country Italy.
Now, AVROTROS and NPO, the Dutch public broadcasters has been added to the list with! A NPO’s spokesperson stated:
“Tonight we first consider the beautiful and symbolic victory of Ukraine. Should the EBU request the NPO to take over the organisation of the Eurovision Song Contest again, we will think about it together with all parties involved.”
NPO
In the past, the contest was declined to be hosted by some countries. Back then, BBC on all occasions – except one – took the responsibility for organising the show. In 1980, Israel – the winner of 1979 – declined the hosting rights after hostig the 1978 edition. The British broadcaster was asked to host but declined too. Finally, the Dutch broadcaster accepted the responsibility and hosted the 25th Eurovision song contest.
Given the situation, I believe that if Ukraine cannot host Eurovision, the runner-up of the show will be asked to step in. In other words, the United Kingdom most likely will be the first option – after the winning nation – to organise the event.
