Markus Riva was born on October 2, 1986, in Talsi, Latvia. His full name is Miķelis Ļaksa. His career dates back in 2009, when he released his debut album. Since then he has released a total of six albums and multiple singles in English, Russian and Latvian.

Markus is known for participating in every single Latvian selection for Eurovision between 2014 and 2022. His best result is the second place in the final, which was achieved twice in 2015 and 2019.
