
Portugal this year chose Mimicat as its 2023 representative. Mimicat was born on October 25, 1984, in Coimbra, Portugal. Her full name is Marisa Isabel Lopes Mena, but she is better known by her stage name Mimicat.
She recorded her first album at the age of 9, while in 2001, when she was 15 years old, she competed in the Portuguese national final for Eurovision “Festival da Canção”. At her initial attempt at the music festival, she performed under the name Izamena, but didn’t pass the semifinals. For the years that followed, she was the lead singer of the band “The Casino Royal”.
Her solo career commenced in 2014 when she released her debut album, “For You”. Following that, she performed in many festivals and stages in both Portugal and Brazil. Her second album, “Back in town”, was released in 2017 and managed to enter the Portuguese charts, peaking at 43rd place.
Earlier this year, she competed in the Portuguese national final, Festival da Canção again, this time with her song “Ai Coração”, which means “Oh, Heart”, and won the show. The entry is composed by Marisa Mena (a.k.a. Mimicat) and Luís Pereira.
Portugal will perform in the first half of the first semifinal.
