ESC 2023: Meet Sudden Lights From Latvia!

Latvia this year chose Sudden Lights as its 2023 representatives. Sudden Lights is a Latvian indie rock group that was formed in 2012. The group consists of Andrejs Reinis Zitmanis, Kārlis Matīss Zitmanis, Mārtiņš Matīss Zemītis and Kārlis Vārtiņš.

The band gained the opportunity to record its first single after winning a competition for newcomer artists. In 2017, they released their debut album, with their second one coming out two years later. Last year, they released their latest album, which is titled “Miljards vasaru”.

Their first attempt at representing their country at Eurovision was in 2018. The band entered the Latvian national final with their song “Just Fine” and managed to place second.

Earlier this year, the group entered Supernova with the song “Aijā”. The song qualified for the final, where it won, topping both the jury and the public voting. The entry was composed by Andrejs Reinis Zitmanis, Kārlis Matīss Zitmanis, Kārlis Vārtiņš and Mārtiņš Matīss Zemītis.

Latvia will perform 4th in the first semifinal!
