Melodifestivalen 2024 will face a change on its format!
Sweden has one of the most fan-favourite national finals for Eurovision. The last couple of years, every fan talks about the 6-week running show and it is obvious that is very competitive with over 2000 submissions each year.
The organisers of the national selection announced an update of the format. From now on the competing entries will be increased from 28 to 30. From 2015 and onwards, 28 entries were competing in the 4 semifinals, each consisting of 7 entries – 2 were making it to the final and 2 to the second chance. Under the new format the semifinals will consist of 6 entries, whilst the second chance will be erased completely. In its place a 5th semifinal of 6 new entries will be held.
In other words, from each semi only two artist will advance to the final and the rest 4 artists will be eliminated.
We remind you that prior to 2015, the competing entries were 32 – eight in each semifinal, but only two were qualifying from the second chance for a total of 10 finalists. We should highlight that the new format will not change the number of qualifiers (12) which was introduced in 2015.
