ESC 2024: Meet Gåte From Norway!

Norway this year chose Gåte as its 2024 representatives. Gåte – which means riddle – is a five-member, that was formed in 1999, in Trøndelag, Norway.

Throughout the years, the group has gone into two hiatus and has face many different formations. The current five members are Gunnhild Sundli, Magnus Børmark, Jon Even Schärer, Mats Paulsen and John Stenersen.

Gunnhild Sundli was born on July 2, 1985. She is the band’s lead vocalist and she is one of the original members, joining the band in 1999. Magnus Børmark was born on November 21, 1982. He knows how to play the guitar and the piano. He joined the band in late 2000. Jon Even Schärer was born on September 27, 1990 and he plays the drum. Mats Paulsen was born on March 1, 1983 and he is the bassist of the band. John Stenersen is a musician and composer. He is the folk part of the band, playing ancient Nordic instruments such as the nyckelharpa, moraharpa, and hurdy-gurdy.

The band released their first EP in 2000 and through this they rose into fame.. Their debut album, which was released in 2002, topped the Norwegian charts. Today, their discography consists of five studio albums, six EPs and a number of singles.

Earlier this year, they competed in the Norwegian national final for Eurovision, “Melodi Grand Prix”. At the show, they qualified from the second semifinal and managed to win the show. Their entry “Ulveham” is composed by Gunnhild Sundli, Magnus Børmark, Jon Even Schärer, Marit Jensen Lillebuen, Ronny Graff Janssen and Sveinung Ekloo Sundli.

It is noteworthy that the song in Norwegian to enter the contest since 2006.

Norway will perform 15th in the second semifinal!
